Picture of the day (general).... (8 Viewers)

One wing was not gone. Both wings were still attached as shown in the very next frame of the video that your frame came from.

There was another thread on the same subject. My post was in reply to one message on that thread that claimed one wing was missing. The claim in that thread was moved to this thread and is now post 2,857 of this thread.

No, I avoid social media, and virtually all websites ... so feel honored to see my pearls of wisdom here ... heh, heh!
The girls are lavishing their charms on Death Valley Scotty (Walter Edward Perry Scott, 1872–1954): Perhaps Death Valley's most famous resident of the time. A flamboyant, exaggerating and verbose prospector, storyteller, and performer who convinced the public he built his landmark, iconic Scotty's Castle using riches from a mythical and secret gold mine.
Sorry to bother you but didn't quite understand your answer. "Ghosts of the Battlefield" is a group/or person on Instagram (and FB maybe, not sure) and you quoted their post - this is how I found the site. Who is Death Valley Scotty? Is he on those photos from Silver Lake?

My bad ... I've a lot of time in earlier Lears, and overspeed failures after loss of control/spiral dive are part of type history: tailplane flutter then loss and/or failure of wing at spar splices.
Amazing photo work!
Sudden, unpredictable, violent thunderstorms over Florida land mass are seasonal, cropping up in minutes. In Navy, when flying from Oceana to Key West for 'hot pad' duty, we'd route offshore to East and hook around, teasing Cubans, to avoid.

I got info by searching, and the Instagram site came up.
Scotty was the most prominent resident of Death Valley, his "Castle" providing shelter for travelers to the forsaken location.

I'm all but certain he's the one in this pic with a welcome harem:

... and quite possibly in this one. Would have been quite in character for him to seize the opportunity.

btw - Does anyone recognize the Meyer OTW biplane, a hoped-for military trainer, but rarely used, largely due to early war concerns about aluminum supply and the low powered engines it used. About 100 built.
The other is the tandem seating Taylorcraft D, which was ordered in quantity as the L-2.

When I flew through there in a 310J on a delivery, that is exactly what happened. We left off Mobile AL and were heading for the mid-atlantic coastal area of FL, and were IFR at the mid-teens.
These things kept popping up and building, just close enough together that I was not going to chance between them, below them. I kept diverting to the right and the controllers would just say "Rodger".
Pretty soon we are out over the ocean heading in the general direction of Cuba to get around the end of the line. The controllers had seen it a time or two before <yawn>.
I on the other hand was quite concerned!!
