[CATCH 22]

"Ruth Westheimer, 43-6, Jackson"

I was really floored though. The name is the same, and she kinda looks a little like her, too.

Here's an article with some more photos of Ruth Westheimer, the pilot and more information about her: https://www.thehenryford.org/collections/explore/articles/the-wasp-an-airplane-knows-no-sex

Her full name is Ruth W. Westheimer Neymark Tompkins, the last two being the family names of her 2 husbands in this order. (I found her in a list under Tompkins). She graduated from high school in 1939 so she was born around 1921-1922 maybe? Both ladies with the same names are Jewish and from German families, being physically similar is not unusual (I'm not saying they were related). Ruth passed away in 2016, Dr. Ruth passed away in 2024.
Cheers!

The Кasserine Pass bombers, camouflaged with mud. Many people still think this is paint - it is not. One can see how thick the mud was applied, almost 3-dimensional.

For comparison:

Both sides used the same "camo":

Great photo! These were times: one could open the window while in flight and the plane wouldn't crash...maybe.

That looks like the oil cooler is next to the pilot. No fun if it springs a leak or is hit by something in flight.
