Hudsons had a problem on take off that if an engine failed on or soon after lift off because the rudders could not prevent the aircraft turning into the dead engine and the wing on that side stalling. Several Australian registered aircraft came to grief that way.

The answer is to close throttles and take what you get straight ahead, unless you get clean and up to VSSE. ( Velocity Safe Single Engine ). Not all twins can fly away on one in that critical time between rotation and gear up and moving.
The problems were many. The multi training was still evolving and aircrews ended up being test pilots when one of them failed at a new point or CG or density altitude.
In the US, the FAA was killing trainees and examiners until they quit doing real engine cuts at critical times. They bumped the real cuts up to a safer altitude.
