This could turn out to be interesting…

DUBAI, May 20 (Reuters) - Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, a hardliner seen as a potential successor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed when his helicopter crashed in poor weather in mountains near the Azerbaijan border, officials and state media said on Monday.
The charred wreckage of the helicopter which crashed on Sunday carrying Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and six other passengers and crew was found early on Monday after an overnight search in blizzard conditions.

Other fatalities are East Azerbaijan Governor Malek Rahmati, Representative of the Iranian supreme leader in East Azerbaijan Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem, Head of presidential guard Mehdi Mousavi (Brigadier General in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps), the Iranian Air Force pilots Colonel Taher Mostafavi and Colonel Mohsen Daryanush, and flight technician Major Behrouz Qadimi.

The helicopter involved was a Bell 212 with Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force (IRIAF) registration number 6-9207 and construction number 35071. Having been built in 1994, the helicopter was 30 years old at the time of the accident. Iran purchased the helicopter second-hand in the early 2000s.

A day before the crash, the Iran Meteorological Organization issued an orange weather warning (severe weather that may cause damage or accidents) for the region.
The search was hampered by rain/snow and fog.

The helo was in a group of 3, and the other two lost contact with it in bad weather conditions.
