On the morning of Oct. 30, 1939 the German submarine U56 hit HMS Nelson with three torpedoes, but none detonated.
Aboard HMS Nelson were First Lord of the Admiralty Winston Churchill, Admiral of the Fleet Sir Charles Forbes and First Sea Lord admiral Sir Dudley Pound. What's the impact on Britain's war effort if all three men are lost in the attack?
With Forbes and Pound dead the RN's Norwegian campaign, u-boat war and in the latter Force Z may be impacted. Perhaps HMS Glorious won't be sent on Churchill's errand.
