USN and US Marines used a code system that included the type/manufacture and which connective system it was, fye, SB2C, S=scout B=bomber 2 (seconded one from manufacturer) C=Curtis. F4U F=Fighter 4=fourth one from manufacturer U=Chance Vought, SBD S=Scout B=bomber =Douglas. The letters don't always correspond to alphabetical listing of manufacturers F6F F= Grumman but the navy could never spell and the marines only eat crayons and copy off the navy's papers.

If the Air Force and the navy operated the same type they would have different designation. IE a B-25 USAAF is a PBJ USN or MC P=patrol B=bomber J=North American. (See they can't spell.
Well, I really prefer Russian / Soviet naming system for Airplanes...

Lavochkin something something is LaGG, Pteliakov is Pe, Sukhoi is SU, Mikoyan i Gurovich is MiG, Antonov is AN, so on, so forth.

It's way easier, even for someone like me to quickly identify the plane and manufacturer.

US naming system is more like ww2 German SdKfZ system, Confusing, Long and too much Complicated, especially for someone like me, with no vast knowledge or first hand experience.

To summerise, both systems have their own weaknesses and benefits, non is better to other by a long shot.

I guess it depends on what your used to. Current US naming is easy for me but I spent 20 years in the USAF. F=Fighter, A=Attack, E+Electronic, B=Bomber etc...

Yeah, the current one is way better! Just like RF-4E , R= recon, F= Fighter, 4 E = Submodel and varient. Lot easier to memorize and learn.

Pop Up Paint Booth. Another on line wonder purchase. It measures approximately 17 by 17 by 17 inches inside. Has zip up front and window in top. Also has a flap in the rear for filters. It can be used with a 20 inch box fan.....so it says. I just received it so it will be a while for me figure out how and where to use it. The second image has the booth upside down, the "black window" in the bottom is suppose to be at the top. Let the fun begin!!! It cost me $20.00 USD.

George I grew up across the street from a paper mill. I can still smell that paper stock after 50 years away from it. The mill my father worked made stationery paper from linen and cotton rags. Not the crap paper from wood pulp.
Poor you. I spent two years at Ft. Stewart GA. Place is surrounded by paper mills. Those damp mornings with no wind -:puke:
