Got to visit Fort Abercrombie State Park on Kodiak Island today. The sight of a gun installation, and other things in WW2. Certainly a remote duty station, and beautiful.

Sadly the small museum was closed, will try again the next time I'm here.

My dad was stationed there in the early 50s, serviced P2V Neptunes to patrol the Aleutians. Texas boy who spent his first two years in the Navy at Corpus Christi before they sent him to Kodiak. Loved the fishing in the summer but the winter made him change his mind about making a career of the Navy!
 
The museum is outstanding. The volunteers have the complete communications apparatus operational.

It was cool to hear the teletype tapping away!
