A US company, Logistics Gliders, is developing gliders that can be used to deliver supplies to troops in areas too hazardous to enable cargo aircraft to operate. The gliders are autonomous, GPS guided, and intended to be expendable. They are made out of ordinary plywood and feature and optional parachute system.

The LG-2K is 12.7 ft long, has a 23.2 ft wingspan, can carry 1800 lb of cargo; 18 can fit in a C-130 or four in an MV-22B. The LG-1K is smaller.

Pictures show an LG-2K being dropped from a Short Skyvan and an LG1-K in flight.

All this from Av Week Magazine.,
