I'm thinking that's a good head start on a dugout canoe.

"Actually he would still land in the water. Only wind resistance would cause him to move backward slightly, depending on his ballistic coefficient. He is moving in a "fixed reference frame moving at constant velocity relative to the earth", i.e. fixed according to him. Otherwise, if you were on a jet passenger plane and tossed a pen upwards a few inches it would smack you in the face at 500mph. Now if the moment he jumped the vehicle accelerated rapidly, he would come down in the same spot the pool was just before the acceleration. So this must be what happened. He should "cannon-ball" to reduce his ballistic coefficient to a minimum, and make sure the driver neither accelerates or brakes while he is diving." - Einstein replying from the grave by channeling through me. (I sometimes also channel Atilla The Hun and Phyllis Diller.)

I don't know. I have an ACME clip with 2 poor animals. One jumped the pool but hit by an anvil. Then, and you won't believe this, the rocket in his briefcase ignited. Taking it high up and exploded. Horrible I tell you.

"Time is that attribute of the universe which prevents everything from happening at once." - Einstein, paraphrased.
