Sometimes science reporting can be...
stupid.
There is a popular story about the sunken continent of Zealandia, rediscovered after 375 years. Except that the Dutch explorer who is supposed to have discovered it originally claimed he found a new continent in the Indian Ocean, having sailed west from Batavia (now Jakarta) on his way to Mauritius.
So apparently, not only did the continent sink, it drifted all the way east past Australia.
