A lot of aircraft used combination starters. the inertia starter could be cranked up by either the electric motor or the hand crank.
Might depend on battery condition or weather (which can also affect battery power) . Some aircraft with electric starters depended on external battery carts, Ground crew dragged small cart/trolley with a bank of batteries from aircraft to aircraft starting them in succession.
Depending on available ground crew and urgency of the situation some aircraft might be started using either method in the same squadron?
