Getting back into the hobby, I'm starting to use the Tamiya acrylics. I am amazed how friendly they are to use. When I was big into model building I would spray Humbrol with my Badger siphon airbrush. I got it for Christmas around 1978. Back then it was $40. I didnt have money for a compressor, so I used an old tire as my pressure source. Badger sold an adapter for auto tire shrader valves.

Now I splurged on a HF compressor, and a NEO Iwata for $50 on ebay, and it makes it fun to airbrush.

Question, how long do most wait for the final gloss top coat on the Tamiya acrylics?

I wouldn't be in hurry. Let the background get cured fully. No matter of the coat kind I always wait 24 hours at least.

You can gloss Tamiya Acrylics (matt paints) pretty much straight after you clean your airbrush out of the last colour...they dry pretty quickly.

Masking on the other hand like the other guys i always wait a while to be sure although most colours could be masked within a short period depending on just what you are doing.
White and yellow on the other hand i leave ...even longer...a couple of days especially if they are stripes or bands...

thanks for the suggestions in this thread. Its not a plane model, but I think the restoration came out ok. One bottom coat of Model Master white primer, two coats of Tamiya Green gloss, and one gloss coat of Mr Hobby Supper Gloss from a rattle can.
