We are presently restoring General Motors F4F FM1 Martlet (UK Wildcat) Reg JV 482. The nameplate with the build number is missing. Can anyone think of a way to identify the build number from the registration number. We know it was an FM1 built by GM Eastern division and shipped to the UK. It has folding wings.

I think I might have eventually solved my own question.. the build number is quoted as 15633 on the goodall site pdf http://www.goodall.com.au/warbirds-directory-v6/grumman.pdf which seems to be the best currently available repositary of all wildcats details.
