In the summer of 2021, in Russia, in the Ramushevo area, a pilot's personal badge made of stainless steel was found at the crash site of the Bf 109.The main parts of the aircraft were taken out after the war.A request to the Bundesarchiv showed that the badge belonged to the pilot 4./JG 54 uffz.Albert Wienands, who disappeared on August 3, 1942.Further research showed that Wienands took off from the Relbica airfield in a pair with Hptm.Jung on a free hunt in the Ramushevo area.It was attacked by two Curtiss P-40 fighters and at 12.27 Berlin time, the burning crashed into the ground, the pilot did not leave the car.The only Soviet regiment 630, the Soviet fighter regiment operating in that area, did not declare a Bf 109 that day.And no other regiment either.Only the pilot of the 485 fighter regiment flying a Hurricane claimed to have shot down a Bf 109 in this place.The pilot is Victor Edkin.The future Hero of the Soviet Union.This was his eighth victory.There is no doubt that the Germans confused the type of aircraft in the clouds, it was not a P-40, but a Hurricane.
