Hello. I was wondering if anybody could please help me identify what pattern tyres these are? They look like they may have straight line grooves like on modern aircraft tyres, but I never knew that 1944 Mustangs used those?

Thanks for any input in advance!

P.S. the photo is courtesy of Eduard Models' facebook page.

Sorry Andy if I used wrong name for the tyre but was thinking of the one...

Thanks guys. Yes, looking closely at the photo I do see that there are breaks every few inches in the tread, so both your suggestions are plausible.

I thought initially they might be these due to the prominent concentric grooves visible in the original photo but I see now that the oval tread pattern is probably more likely.

Our C-119 group at New Orleans, twice while I was in, received snow tires. The ground crew hated them as they were like a wire brush with the wire sticking out of the tread. We found out a 119 group in Alaska could only get the smooth tropical tires, so twice we made a long cross country to trade tires.

P-51 production line photos I have show a mix of Type I, II and VI, Type VI predominate on the prototype and early production.
