A description of the design and function of the fluid coupling used to transmit power from the Power Recovery Turbine (PRT) to the crankshaft of the Wright Turbocompound engine.
Regarding the reliability issue mentioned in the AEHS story, my father flew Connies and DC-7's for Eastern Air Lines and never mentioned any specific engine problems other than noting that the PRT bucket was armor plated so when the turbine disintegrated all the shrapnel would go in a controlled direction. Eastern's policy was to only use low blower and they claimed that improved engine life. It also meant that flying NY-MIA, they could look up and see National Airlines high above them.

Hi everyone,
I joined this forum because I am helping an association in Nantes, France that is restoring an L1049. I have reccently found graphs and tables concerning the switching between low and high blow and I would like to understand under what conditions the switching is to take place and if anyone would have a copy of a procedure. An help welcome with thanks.
Gerard
