But not all that good for bombers, though the Lancaster and Mossie used them. And was limited for next gen bombers like the B-29. Particularly if a model of the R-2800 was specifically developed for the requirements of the B-29.
The R-2800 was nice, a versatile engine, and could have been adapted to the B-29 in a pinch. The R-3350 and R-4360 were better, and would have been good in fighter designs as well, but came a little late, and the R-3350 was still having some reliability problems on the B-29.
