The Corsairs and Skyraiders were to be tied down on the port side of the flight deck; and upon signal from the bridge, all engines were to be turned up to full power to assist the tugs in pulling the ship along side the dock.
I do wonder how much effect this would have had on moving a 30kton carrier..

I liked the German movie "Stalingrad" for it's realism,

but "Enemy At the Gates" is a good movie (even though the story is false (assuming)).

And of course "Das Boot"!!

Don't forget "From Here to Eternity." The book is great as it covers the year 1941 and garrison life in great detail.

Following the rotation to literature from movies for a second, one of my favorite books re : prewar USN is Battleship Sailor from Ted Mason, published from USNI, out of print last I checked. He served aboard USS California from 1940-42, and thereafter on a minesweeper.

Like FHTE, it covers the ratcheting tension from late 1940 to Pearl Harbor, only one sailor's tale, but it's nonfiction and gives a sense of the time.

Great book to get insight on Oahu before the war is All the Gallant Men, by Donald Stratton. His description at almost haunting to one who has studied the local history through, books, pictures and talk as I was born in Hawaii a grew up here from my teen years, and have spent my life here on and off.

My top Favourite is Battle of Britain, I saw parts of it being filmed near where I live (UK)

Another one I like is "To Hell and Back" based on the story of Audie Murphy in WW2.

He played himself in that one!

It has been a looong time since I saw the movie.
Another line from the movie was when clearing a room, saw movement of himself in a mirror and shot the mirror, prompting the comment from a buddy, "The first time I ever saw a Texan beat himself to the draw."
