It was a Dornier Do-18 of 2/Kustenfliegergruppe that had the distinction of being the first German aircraft to be brought down by British forces in World War II. It was forced down by Lieutenant B.S.McEwan of No. 803 Squadron F.A.A. operating from HMS Ark Royal in the North Sea on the 26th of September 1939.
