Shown here a Me 410A-2/U4 belonging to II./ZG 26 peels of in a dive to attack US bombers. This version of the Me 410A-2 was armed with a 5cm BK 5 cannon for which a ZFR 4a gun sight was provided as well as the standard forward-firing armament of two MG 151 cannons and two MG 17 machine-guns. A considerable number of 'kills' against USAAF day bomber formations were amassed by II./ZG 26, but on 13th May, 1944, when intercepting a formation en-route for Posen (modern day Poznan), the Gruppe was bounced by escorting P-51D Mustangs and suffered such heavy losses that it had to stand down.
