Shown here is Spitfire LF.Mk.VB, WR-R, (EP688) of No.40 Sqd, SAAF based at Gerbini, Sicily in August 1943. It is fitted with an Aboukir filter. It also has an opening (covered over) in the fuselage side for an F.24 camera, as befitting the unit's tactical reconnaissance role.
