Shown here is Spitfire Mk.II (LR) of No.66 Sqd flying low over the sea. The 182 l (40 Imp gal) fixed fuel tank under the port wing cut top speed by about 48 km/h (30 mph) and caused handling problems particularly during take-off and landing, and in the circuit.
