Shown here is is one of two Spitfire PR.Mk.IVs left behind at Vaenga, Northern Russia and operated by the Soviet Air Force. These two aircraft plus another PR.Mk.IV that was lost were originally operated by a detachment of No.1 PRU that operated in Northern Russia from September 1942 to monitor German naval activity that was disrupting Arctic convoys. the personnel of this detachment left in November 1942.
