Two Spits and a Hurricane

Shown here is a mixed formation of fighter aircraft seen in flight on 16th September, 1942, and employed by the ECFS (Empire Central Flying School) at Hullavington, Wilts. Nearest the camera is Hurricane Mk.I , (Z 4791), which spent most of its existence serving in a training role., behind the Hurricane are two Spitfire Mk.IIs, the nearest (P7926) 'Hereward the Wake' was a presentation aircraft and served with Nos. 610, 130, 411, 121 and 340 Sqds and with No. 53 OTU. The furthest aircraft (P7882) had served with Nos. 152, 134 and 340 Sqds. Taken from The Royal Air Force of World War Two in Colour.
