At 1633 hours on 20 June 1943 Whitley GR.Mk.V (EB399) of No.10 Operational Training Unit, flown by Pilot Officer R.H.Orr, from St. Eval, attacked with depth charges and machine gun fire a U-boat about 130 miles north of the north-west tip of Spain. Seven minutes later, Whitley G.R.Mk.V (LA814) of the same unit, flown by Flight Sargeant Harry Martin, was seen to crash in the sea when attacking the same U-boat. There were no survivors from the crew of six. No U-boats were reported sunk or damaged in this area on that day. Ref: CN/1/39
