At 1605 hours on 14 June 1943 a group of three U-boats were located about 80 miles north of the north-west tip of Spain by Whitley G.R.Mk.V (BD289) of No.10 Operational Training Unit, flown by Sergeant K.G. McAlpine, from St. Eval. An attack was made with depth charges and machine gun fire, as shown here, but there is no record of any U-boat sunk in that area on that day. Ref: CN 1/39
