1/144 P-63 "Pinball"

I finally quit worrying this crude Arii P-63 and called it done. Decided to do the orange target practice scheme. I know the rear canopy is incorrect, but... I lost count of how many coats of orange I put on this model. That is the kit stand.

Not too bad I would say. What brand of paint has been used?

Nice. Orange is a beast to paint. Under-coating with white helps but white is a beast to paint etc. etc. etc.

Considering what you started with, that's a pretty nice result Dave and certainly eye-catching in that scheme. The kit stand is intriguingly positioned, should it maybe be pointing the other way?

Congratulations! I don't know how anyone could even paint any detail on a 1/144 model of an airplane that size!

I do have the MPM RP-63 special issue version of their 1/48 kit but I have done nothing with it so far.

A friend of mine was trained as a gunner late in WWII and shot at RP-63's. I understand that on occasion the radio exchanges got a bit heated when even the frangible rounds damaged the target airplane.

My friend was told that for the invasion of Japan they would be gunners in B-32's that would be used as gunships, firing at ground targets. The A-bomb made that mission moot and he was trained as a radar operator, on the ground directing fighters on intercepts.

It's a question of balance...
I used the existing hole intended for the front landing gear leg and this is how it "works".
I kind of like it hanging out that way.
It's fun to try to create interesting stands. Here's one I made for a 1/72 Mosquito:
