Hola folks,
Just wanted to post my latest build in a long while. She's the P-61B that was used to during "The Great Raid" in Cabanatuan, Philippines, 30 January 1945. She was used to distract the Japanese camp guards while a special Rangers team positioned themselves around the camp to liberate captured allied personnel. Link here...
Earlier post on research for the aircraft here...
The Dragon kit was not an easy build as it took a lot of test fitting and putty work to get the sub-assemblies to fit and align, as expected from these twin-boom aircraft kits. Di a few add-on detailing as well> like a radar operator's access door and most of the plethora of antennas. The kit comes with PE parts, but I chose to forego this as my last PE experience was not as successful. Livery Decals/marking were also custom to depict "Hard to Get", an early version P-61B (no ventral gun) tasked for the mission. As usual, i wanted to depict a well-worn aircraft with chipping and weatherizing effects, done with masking solution over aluminum base paint and the use of Tamiya Panel Line Accent colors and Mr Hobby Weathering Pastels. She's also a tail-sitter and required lead counterweights added in the nose cone and the engine housing.
The base was done as usual via Photoshop to depict a PSP effect and indicate squadron patches and mounted on a photo frame. A 1/72 6x6 cargo truck is used for sense of scale.
