South Wales main line. The express is headed by No. 5013 'Abergavenny Castle' (built 6/32, withdrawn 7/62 - three months after this photograph). It is passing the great Port Talbot Steelworks (now Tata Steel), which stretches for a mile beside the railway - and is one of few left in Britain in 2011. On the right is a new signalling centre, being built along with the rebuilding of the station which is behind the camera.
