Internal explosion severing #1 & #2 control cables, so turned back but ditched Channel 4 mi off UK coast.
Crew rescued by ASR taken to Newhaven, Sussex.
 
Douglas-Long Beach B-17F-55-DL Fortress 42-3413 delivered Dallas on the 10th of June 1943, to Dow Field on the 18th of August 1943.
Assigned to 350th BS, 100th BG at Thorpe Abbots 20th of August 1943.
(100th BG, *Hard Luck*) lost on mission to Ludwigshafen on the 14th of August 1944.
9 crew POW.
 
Douglas-Long Beach B-17F-75-DL Fortress 42-3513 delivered Denver on the 19th of July 1943; Presque Is on the 17th of August 1943; Assisgned 326BS/92BG Podington on the 2nd September 1943; Hit by flak on the 29th of April 1944 on mission to Berlin. Flak caused engine failure, cr Nieuw-Millingen, seven miles W of Apeldoorn, Holland.
