Love trains in general, more so US steam and 1st and 2nd generation diesels....got a soft spot for the LMS of the Big Four, wouldn't mind shovel coal on a BR 52 or 01 either!

Grew up in the backyard of GN and SP running through the Oregon Cascades. Bloody nose and Black Widow schemes were my memories. I never got to see the heavy steam but I fantasized about it coming up the grade in the winter belching smoke and steam out the stack double heading GS Northern 4-8-4's love me the AC-9 Yellowstone's. Or the big articulated GN steam!

I'm a bit Milwaukee Road obsessed myself! Can't beat mountain railroading....

Donner Pass is something special, so are the Black Widows and Daylights....

I'm especially fond of the GP-38. They were used on the LIRR and they all(?) went over to NYAR, New York and Atlantic or Not Yet a Railroad.

This talk has reminded me of visits to my Grandparents. Pennies on the track and straight pins on the track in an X to make sissors. And looking for them in the rocks after the train passes.
