Hannants.
If the required size is not available in 1/48th, check for the equivalent, in a larger size, in 1/72nd.

No error. Either use a larger 1/72nd scale decal, or a smaller 1/32nd scale decal, whichever fits the required size and is available.
I've had to do it quite often, when required 1/48th decals weren't available, and now have a stock of selected 1/72nd scale decals for this purpose, in larger sizes, which fit for 1/48th scale.

I agree with you Terry. Here you are...

36" = 91,44 cm what is:

1:72 - 1,27 cm
1:48 - 1,905 cm (19 mm)
1:32 - 2,8575 cm
1:24 - 3,81 cm

54" = 137,16 cm what is:

1:72 - 1,905 cm (19mm)
1:48 - 2,8575 cm
1:32 - 4,28625 cm
1:24 - 5,715 cm

So it is clearly seen that the 36" code letter of 1:48 scale can be replaced by the 54" marking in 1:72 scale. Also the 54" letter in 1:48 scale is of the same size the 36" marking in 1:32 is.

I understand but I did not think that a 1/72 scale version of a 54" letter/number decal would exist. I've seen 48" letter/numbers in scale decals but a 54"?
Did RAF planes carry 4 foot 6 inch letters/numbers?

I agree it may be a trouble with finding of the decals of the letter size. But the decal markings in 1/32 scale for the 24" and the 18" letters in 1/24. These also can be the 36" (19mm) letters for the 1/48 scale. All of the decal markings are offered by many manufacturers, I would say.

24" = 60,96 cm
1:32 - 1,905 cm (19mm)

18" = 45,72 cm
1:24 - 1,905 cm (19mm)

Hi Fubar. I'm building a 1:48 Beaufighter Mk.X and I messed up one of the squadron code letters on the fuselage and needed a replacement. Unfortunately I didn't have the correct letter in the spares box.

Do you have any pic showing the decal marking applied? Is it damaged or just you confused with another letter?

Actually I wanted to see the damaged letter. What happened, cacked or was torn? Have the decal makings been sealed with the clear coat yet?

OK I see, Did it happen to the entire decal I mean the DM+ roundel+ J or just to the J letter only? Do you have still the curled J letter?
