Hi Jason,

Not sure if you are aware of this or not but your late grandfather was shot down over the North Sea on late August 1944 with Fl/Lt Etchells. You can see a report on this action here:
156 Squadron Lancaster III PB302 GT-B Fl/Lt. Etchells, RAF Upwood, North Sea, ASR success

Sadly, S/L Nichols was killed in late March 1944. Here is their report: 625 Squadron Lancaster III W5009 CF-Z Sqn.Ldr. Nicholls, RAF Kelstern, Udenbreth
I would certainly be interested in getting a copy of his logbook etc to see if there is anything further we could add to either of these reports? Additionally, any other photos or documents could me most helpful.

Where are you in Australia? I am in Sydney...

Hi Jane,

I work with a team who primarily researches the 625 Squadron, of whole my Great Uncle was a member. If you could please contact me about your father that would be greatly appreciated. We would like to possibly put together a report about him as an "Unsung Hero" of this Squadron - too date the majority of our work has been around those crews who were lost, We are now trying to broaden this.

J Janet Grief I would love to know more about your father. My first cousin once removed was Bert Dean the flight engineer on LL962, he survived the crash but sadly surcombed to his injury's on the 12th August and is buried in Strasbourg.

Chippy NZ, Bert was my dads cousin (Bert's mum was my grandads sister), I tried to look a bit into his dads side of the family and think his dad was your grandads half brother (they shared the same mother)

We visited his grave in Strasbourg in February

You realise that Janet hasn't been here since the day she registered? That's now 15 years ago. Very doubtful if she will react.

You might try to PM her. Who knows if her attached email is still active and she might see the email notification. It's a long shot, but maybe worth a try.

Frederick Bert Dean was my dads cousin, my grandad and Bert's mother were siblings.
 
Airframes I'd love to know anything more on Ll962, I already have the aircrew remembered link and have recently contributed some photos of Bert Dean to it, he was an only child, my dads cousin, we visited his grave in Strasbourg back in February.
