    70 years ago, the war in the Pacific took a new turn.

    The USMC invaded Guadalcanal.

    And tonight, the IJN soundly whipped the butts of the USN in the battle of Savo Island.

    Here's a salute to the dwindling numbers of combatants from both sides, who took part in these vicious battles!

    I hope that the newcomers to this forum spend some time checking out my thread, "this day in the Pacific war", and look over the details.
