George McGovern. The 1972 democratic nominee for president is now extremely ill, and is probably going to be dead soon.
I write this as the 1972 election is one of the defining moments in my life, as I became aware of my political beliefs. We were opposite sides of what we believed in.
As I grew up, I learned of your service to this country as a pilot of a B24. I am now mature enough to be able to salute you with pride, for the service you gave our country.
Please accept my salute and thank you for your service. And the sacrifice you made to insure that in our country, political differences are to be met with honor and not hatred and war.
