Aircraft Victory Mission Markings

IMG_20240119_022100.jpg

Pilot Lt. William King on the wing of his P-51B Mustang "Atlanta Peach". At the time this photo was taken, King's aircraft was marked to have flown 5 fighter sweep missions, 22 bombing missions, destroyed three railcars and shot down two German Aircraft.

....nothing about those five figure, fighter escorts? 🤨🤔

This one is here somewhere and around the web. If I remember, the pilot noticed a DC-3 was heading over Japanese territory and he couldn't signal it to turn away so he shot out an engine forcing it to turn away. The aircraft was carrying some U.S. nurses and the pilot later married one. Or something like that

It's a great story however Curdes granddaughter has stated that the part about him marrying one of the nurses on the plane is not true.
