How are these very organized airshows, like air dot show that have specific areas for patrons to watch the airshow from based on a price point? Can one wander around? Are the static displays good? Back in the good old cold war days airshows had some VIP seating, usually bleachers. The rest of us could go wherever. The static displays had a large variety of aircraft as varied as an airwing on a carrier back then. I'm wondering if one has to stay in whatever 'box' they paid for.

The box just provides you preferred seating and maybe some amenities (food, drink, dedicated porta potties, etc.) depending on price point. But you can still wander the static displays. You're not restricted to the box.

A decent discussion forum on air shows is Airshowstuff. There you can find out specifics on most North American air shows and many bigger shows in other countries. Lots of comments on how the previous year's show was and what to expect for upcoming years.
