I notice that France are not having a good time. Germany and France have been working together to develop a replacement to the Leopard 2 and Leclerc but Germany have decided to link up with Italy, Spain and Sweden. There is an outside chance that the UK might join as well, leaving France on its own.
When you remember that France lost a large Submarine contract with Australia. Plus the German/French project (FCAS) to develop a Stealth fighter in serious trouble as they cannot agree on practically anything, whilst the programme called Tempest led by BAE Systems, the UK's largest defence firm, which is collaborating with Sweden's Saab and Italy's Leonardo to spread the financial load, with Rolls-Royce and missile manufacturer MBDA making up the lead partners overseeing a 2,000-strong team is making good progress.
Also complicating this is Saudi Arabia who are asking to join the Tempest project and it was Saudi who France were hoping to sell a lot of their aircraft too. One f the reasons that Saudi want to join Tempest is that they wanted to buy a number of new Typhoons but Germany blocked the sale, even though Saudi already have a number in service and they like them.
