If I'm a North Korean soldier I'd be doing whatever I could to avoid this real life Squid Game and surrender to the first Ukrainians I see.
North Koreans are also fed state propaganda from cradle to grave, so I'm willing to bet that they've been told everything is going according to plan and the sub-human Ukrainian Nazis will murder them if they try and surrender (defect).

There is also the issue of the troops selected, have families held hostage back home. No soldiers being sent to Russia are orphans or without a relative.

Anyone that gets captured or defects, will have their family eliminated and I understand it will be three generations: immediate (siblings/cousins), parents & aunts and uncles as well as grand parents.

Glorious Leader (the same guy who executes people with artillery) was not shy about passing down this edict.

DPRK troops probably have no idea what's going on. We know they'd be better off surrendering. They are the product of decades of Jeuche's tender mercies. If these NK troops are lucky, a Russian might show one or two of them a cell phone and how to use it. They might even see Western media. They probably won't understand anything anyone says.

''...They talk in exasperated terms over unclear communication about the North Korean troops. "He has no f...ng clue what to do with them," one voice said about a responsible officer.

In another section of the audio, a voice highlights how it's been unclear exactly who is going to provide the North Koreans with food, ammunition, and other supplies.

"Oh, who the f...k knows," he says, later saying: "We did get the rations for everyone but they won't give us the ammunition."

The conversation also notes a language barrier. There will be one interpreter for every 30 people, a voice said, going on to complain: "One thing that I don't get: We need three leaders for each group of 30. Where are we supposed to get them f...k knows
..."

''...Surrender! Ukraine provides you with protection, food, and warmth," the statement said, adding that Russians soldiers who had surrendered were now living in "comfortable barracks" and given "three hot meals a day...''

I doubt they'll have high combat efficiency. I doubt they'll surrender at the drop of a hat, too. From what I've read some of these DPRK troops are SpecOps forces. It's no wonder that South Korea is offering translators for interrogation, it's a good way to find out what the DPRK grunt might think, and if you get a SpecOps guy in the bag you can find out some good poop, perhaps.

Ukraine and DPRK kept a visa-free regime until 2016 and there were years, until 2017 at least, when Ukraine was the top importer of some foodstuff (wheat flour, dairy, etc.) into DPRK. Some of those soldiers were probably fed with that food in their childhood...

Just a thought about the N Korean soldiers. To them the Russian equipment must seem almost space age, what they must think of the later NATO equipment is only wonder.

Another thought is the Israeli attack on Iran. They seem to have done a serious amount of damage to the AA equipment including destroying all of Iran's S300 systems. As a result Iran is now wide open to further air attacks should they try to retaliate.
