I have been reading a couple of historical book on WW2 and came across one phrase which I am sure we have all heard, but struck me as being possibly relevant in Ukraine.

It was when Churchill said, that it it isn't the end, or even the beginning of the end, but it's the end of the beginning.

Ukraine seems to be acting with more confidence, there is less fear that Ukraine as an entity will fall. Economically both are in a dangerous situation but in many ways Russia is in a worse situation. Europe is now supporting Ukraine in a number of ways but that support is now less reactive and more planning for the future. Less of the support is obsolescent second hand equipment being handed over, its modern, up to date and as good as any equipment anywhere. Ammunition in particular seems to be fine and general supplies sufficient.

Strategically in particular the use of long range drones there seems to be a change. Here, it is Russia who is now having to react defensively to the Ukrainian attacks. There is a strategic approach in the attacks, it isn't a one off strike where they used to see a gap and took it for little more than publicity. They seem to have a long term goal and its working.

Ukraine is also losing its dependence on the USA. Its very important don't get me wrong, but they are more independent and when they have their own long range missiles, USA and Europe will not be able to say that they cannot attack certain targets. They will have free reign.

Even before the dog-and-pony show in Alaska, it's been clear that since the change of administration in America (and really even before then, by dint of Congressional stalling), Ukraine must not trust the American basket to carry its eggs.

I really hope that Ukraine gets more basic stuff like aluminum ready to smelt, IC chips compatible with the software they're writing, and 155 shells. Meanwhile American aid to Ukraine, which has also helped the American economy, must now find markets in countries which don't trust us to pull through when push comes to shove.
 
I mentioned a while back (and still hold this belief) that when the dust settles, Ukraine will be a premier military power and as she rebuilds, will be an economic and industrial asset to Europe.

It's a tragedy that so many lives had to be wasted for this transition to happen, but herr Putler accidently triggered this shift with his delusions of grandeur, which most likely will have cost him his nation's standing on the world stage in the process.
 

Putin will not live long enough to see Russia recover from this disastrous misjudgment. He has sand-bagged his nation for decades.

Meanwhile, Ukraine is building relationships and supply-chains that will grow much quicker than the Russians might repair theirs.

Add to that, what those in control in Washington fail to realise is that, through their own actions, America is no longer the Leader of the Free World. Right now many people outside the US give that title to Ukraine and/or the block of countries who support Ukraine.

America is now widely seen as blackmailer, extortionist, totally untrustworthy and totally lacking any cohesive policy other than screw the rest of the world. except for Russia and North Korea. The majority of allies consider that North Korea being tariff free while allies South Korea and Taiwan are hit with 15% and 20% respectively, and Russia getting away with 10% tariffs while most other countries are on 15% or more, to be a clear indication of those who the US administration respect and honour and consider equals.

Unfortunately, sooner or later the Free World is going to say enough and America will totally cease to be relevant except as a possible source of materials and tech like Japan was from around 1960 to 1980. Politically they are already known as untrustworthy and the moves to turn back the clock inside the US to the early 1900s will only make things worse.

The Roman world dominance and British world dominance lasted centuries. Americas will not last even one century at this rate.
