This may well play into Ukraine's hands as there will be fewer air defences for the power/oil/gas/rail targets. With General Winter now in play this could make it very difficult for Russia.

It isn't often that I totally disagree with this contributor, but I have for some time believed that something like this would be valuable. Thinking of the Hawk 200 would be very helpful. He is right in one thing and that Russia would find it very difficult to build many.

Trainers tend to have good handling.

and usually good low speed capabilities. This means that, unlike the Yak-52s the Ukrainians are using, the Russians are trialling an aircraft that has the high speed necessary to get from base to intercept area very quickly, and probably the low speed capabilities to shoot down most of the drones in use other than the Flamingo. But it also has the high speed necessary to intercept that. Unlike the F-16s it is capable of slow speed flight so is not likely to be bought down by debris from a drone they have just destroyed and that is a major weakness of using F-16's and other supersonic interceptors against drones - as has been demonstrated far too often.
