I get the feeling that Russia is running out of time due to money pressures, plus we are seeing the first signs that the Russian people are starting to recognise that they are being impacted by the fighting, that what the media are telling them isn't the truth.

That I believe is the reason and thinking which is forcing the pace, forcing Russia to throw everything it has into the combat, to overcome Ukraine and make a breakthrough before that time runs out.
Examples such as the German 1918 Spring offensive and to a lesser extent the Battle of the Bulge come to mind.

If Ukraine can hold for the next few months, I believe that things may start to implode in Russia. These are critical times for both Russia, Ukraine and the future make up of Europe.

Its also worth remembering that General Winter, so often a factor that helped Russia so many times, is now his enemy. Modern Russia in winter with limited fuel and power will be a desperate place to live and work.

This is an interesting posting that shows the difference between the two capitals and how the ordinary people are prepared for power blackouts. The difference is stark and the future is dark.

The Russian public of the 1940's were used to hardship and steeled against the hardships that the German brought - the Russian public of the 21st century are an entirely different breed.

Closely related - how Russia is about to collect roughly US$20 BILLION to fund their war with Ukraine. The deal is subject to US and UK government approval and I think it highly unlikely that the US will veto it. Hopefully the Brits will kill the deal.
