Its personal view but I suspect that Putin cannot afford a freeze in the war. His money is running out and a ceasefire will do little to stop that drain as troops will have to be paid and equipment purchased. He cannot afford to not make progress, he has to. As when the fighting starts again he will have less money, and therefore less time to fight before the cash runs out. At the same time Ukraine will have the chance to develop a stronger defence. Whilst it is true Putin should have a better force for the offence I believe that his improvement will be considerably less than Ukraine.
Ukraine can, and is, producing more equipment with the assistance and sometimes active participation of Western Allies. The help that Russia gets from his 'allies' is far less, resulting in the capability gap between Russia and Ukraine growing.
The one problem that Russia has and Ukraine doesn't is production capacity. Russian industry has significant shortages in trained/skilled workers, materials, investment, advanced technology and production facilities. Whilst its wrong to think that everything is rosy in Ukraine's garden, with allies assisting in the production of equipment it is I believe much less of a problem.
