One of the rare disclosures of Ukrainian military losses. Since 2023, they have been officially announced only by Zelensky.

Most probably, this is only KIA, not including those who died after reaching the medical facility (probably, Allied Korean War ratios can be applied), not including friendly fire, accidents, or diseases.
As for MIA, the numbers in the range of 10,000-15,000 were mentioned in the public sources after 2022. One reputable NGO counted about 11,000 in 2023-2024. Eventually, some MIA names appear in the KIA or POW lists.

Before the 2022 invasion, the most battle-ready army group deployed in the Donetsk and Luhansk regions (so-called ATO/JFO zone) was about 40,000-45,000.
