Imagine if the Panthers and Tigers had the drivetrain reliability and power to weight ratio of the Leopard. ChatGPT tells us that the Panther would need about 925–930 hp to match the Leopard 1's power-to-weight ratio, or roughly a 30% increase over its original 700 hp engine. And then there's the improvements to the transmission components. BTW, Tiger II would need about 1,440–1,450 hp.

Panther did not need more power, it needed drivetrain reliability. they should have dropped the Tiger II + Jagdtiger and pour all resources into Panther production and reliability improvements.
Ukrainins are master of improvements, both in drone- and antidrone-warfare, and they seem to be supported well in materials so no wonder they hardened the Leo1 to the extreme vs Drones.

I sometimes wonder how reliable the Sherman was, or if it more benefited by the Wallies' enormous capability for providing spares and mechanic expertise in the field. I expect there is a reason the Sherman's (and M3's) designers made accessing the bolt-on transmission in the bows so easy - i.e. frequent teardowns and replacements were anticipated? Mind you, the Ukrainian tank mechanic can maintain and fix anything.
Makes me wonder what the UAF could do with a warehouse of 105mm armed M-51 Super Shermans.

IIRC To be fair, among the German tanks, the 38T had the highest (I think) RAM-D rate (matching or exceeding the Sherman), with the PzKw III (so I would assume StuG III as well) coming in 2nd (not too far behind the Sherman).

I suppose that's why the Mk1 Equine was used in such huge numbers by the Wehrmacht. I imagine when D-Day occurred the Germans were surprised that no draft horses came ashore. And, to bring it back to the present day, who would have thought the Russian army of 2026 would be using horses?
