From your link:

John Herbst, a former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, told Times Radio he's "cautiously optimistic" that the Trump administration will be able to achieve "a sustainable peace" — but potentially not one that sees all Russian-occupied territory returned.

"Their stated objective is a sustainable peace, not necessarily a just peace," he said.

I would point out that if it isn't just, it probably is not sustainable. Injustice typically arouses further conflict.

The fly in the ointment to this "peace talks", is Zelensky and his absolute stance on Russia leaving 100% of sovereign Ukrainian soil.

And I agree with him.

Russia needs to pack it in and go home.

For all their crying about the new American administration needing to pick up the slack in negotiations in order to end this war, the Russians could end this war in a day.

This rather gives the lie to their wanting to negotiate a goddamned thing.
