Ahh...but no, the WaffenTräger was armored and heavily armed and had a solid nose with a 20mm turret.
It's design as an armed escort to fly in formation with the transports was along the same lines as the USAAF's idea to have gunships embedded in their bomber formations.
Added: the Me323E-2/WT was not produced but was tested as a prototype (two built) although one was actually assigned to KG200 where it did perform escort duties but never saw combat.
That's ok. I was thinking of the Bond movies where they had gear to swallow things up.

When I saw 323 I simply assumed the usual variety. Didn't know the later model even existed.
