What I used back in the day was "SolderSeal/Gunk" brake cleaner, outlawed 1986 by EPA as an air pollution, although it is heavier than air. Using that government logic, balls, rocks and anything thrown in the air is an air pollution. Back then, every time I went for car parts, I bought a 6pak of cleaner until supplies ran out. I still have 3 cans left which I use as red ant killer, because it has methyl chloroform in it. Also back in the day, methyl chloroform was sold in quart cans for red ant elimination. As it is heavier than air, a 1/2 ounce on the top of the anthill penetrated down through the mound eliminating ants.
