A USAF Captain told of riding a bus at 18 to join the RCAF in 1940. The bus stopped at the border and he and one other young man were required to walk over and reenter the bus in Canada. I don't know if he was signed up in the U.S. however he had to give up his U.S. citizenship in Canada. Citizenship was later restored to U.S. citizens in an effort to get them to transition to USAAF.
