That was the classic "death roll" you get on a twin when you lose an engine on take off and don't/can't configure for an engine out situation.

I recall a very nice B-26 painted like that I saw at auction at Fantasy of Flight back in the late-90's. I flew into there to pick up a friend who took his Waco to the auction. The guys flying the B-26 were a-holes who would not give you a straight answer about things like which runway was in use.
